- My LiFe In DPHMI -

Its been almost 2 years I'm doing this course, Diploma In pharmacy. I enrolled for this course on 4/1/10 and that is the moment i was excited that "Wow,im going to be a pharmacist soon". When i looked at the booklet of  this course, I was puzzled that I have to learn some subjects which their name makes me afraid such as Microbiology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Anatomy and Pharmacology. I thought im going to study Medicine. I was clueless on what im going to study. The only thing that I knew was emorize all the drugs and their uses.

 
  My first class started and thats the moment i met CCM. His teaching was OK all the way till sem 2 (physical chem). I was screwed up in the calculations but somehow after consulting him,i got through the exam quit well. In 1st sem, Intro to Pharmacy reaaly made me crazy as i have to memorize the whole lecture slide for the test which is IMPOSIBBLE but thank god i did it. Then only i realized that most of the subjects requires such a big capacity of brain memory. There were few subjects which screwed me up in the beginning but somehow i got through all of it. 

 
  Throughout my pharmacy life i met lots of friends which is a plus point for me as i get to learn and share my doubts and understanding with them. Next is the lecturers. I had many colors of lecturers who are too good in teaching as well as average ones. The lecturer who i really salute is Ms.Uma. As i know, no one can beat her in the way of teaching which make me understand and pulled my interest in learning the subject. The second lecturer will be Ms.Grace. She is also a good lecturer who can make ur life easy in understanding the subject. This both lecturers gave short notes and made the topic looks simple for me to memorize it. Our faculty will be in great loss if this lecturers is to leave INTI. There are other lecturers also who is as good as them.

 
  I had lots of fun throughout this course. Every class we will have fun, especially having Doris@seducer in the class. Will bully her to the max and make the class happening. Gonna miss her ready cause she flying to AUS to date with Mr.White(s).haha.. I had fun bullying and screwing up lecturers too (especially Ms.Poo n Mr.CCM). Besides that, i had experience changing lecturers as we wish. Sounds very cruel aite(we are actually).haha.. And the unforgettable moment in DPHMI life will be the award receiving. Didnt ever dream at all that i would receive all this in my life. But it was like getting paid for the hard works  that we have put in. It is more happening when Im receiving it with my classmates..its really cool. 

  This is my final sem in Inti(hopefully) and i thought it'll be a good sem. But i seem to be wrong. REPORT PRESENTATION is really making me crazy. Mr.CCM made me run after him everyday and he will sent me off with a ?. My experiment turns out to be failed and the reason he gave was KARMA which i think might be true. haha.. However, I'm having a good time bullying him as well. Hopefully, this sem will turn out good for me as before. 

  Im really wishing to leave INTI with good memories so hopefully I'll do it. And of course im going to miss my lecturers and friends,especially my still existing classmates since sem 1. You guys are really unforgettable!

-DruG & Me-

Everyone of us use drug in our life. Drug doesnt mean it should be medicines only. It also could be supplements, ointments, cosmetics and many more. And so do me,i used this three products(also medicine) in my life frequently which is Vaseline Petroleum Jelly, Vaseline Body Lotion & Decondine Tablet.

Vaseline Petroleum Jelly

    It is a mixture of mineral oils, paraffin and microcrystalline waxes. When blended together, it creates something remarkable. It is a smooth jelly that has a melting point just above the body temperature. A a result, it melts into skin, flows into the spaces between cells and the gaps in our lipid barrier. Once there, it re-solidifies, locking itself in place. 

    It is colorless, or of a pale yellow color, translucent, and devoid of taste and smell when pure. It does not oxidize on exposure to the air and is not readily acted on by chemical reagents.Vaseline is insoluble in water and soluble in dichloromethane, chloroform, benzene, diethyl ether, carbon disulfide and turpentine oil. It is a mixture of different length chains of carbon molecules containing between 20 and 25 carbon atoms. These are considered long chained hydrocarbons. Since Vaseline is a mixture of mineral oil,its difficult really see its chemical structure.
   Vaseline have two main functions. Firstly, it protects skin from the effects of weather and exposure. Second, it acts like a sealant to help keep the inside world in. It forms an occlusive barrier to the natural water loss of our skin. So skin that is dry and chapped is protected from drying elements, enabling skin-softening moisture to build up naturally from inside the skin itself. 

    Vaseline Petroleum Jelly has help me alot in keeping my lips moisten. I use it everday to prevent my lips from drying and it really works. Whenever I have dried and  bleeding lips,one thing that I look up for is my vaseline. Just in few hours,it will heal my lips. It also gives a 'glossy' appearance which makes lips looks moisten.

Vaseline Total Moisture Lotion

   It is a multi-vitamin moisturizer. It replenishes 100% of daily hydration, along with the essential nutrients that skin needs to be vibrant and feel healthy every day. It contains Vitamins A, E, & minerals which is essential skin nutrients that we need. Besides, it also has conditioning moisturizers which provide 100% of daily hydration.

   This lotion keeps my skin hydrated and smooth all day long as my skin gets dried when I spend most of my day in the air-cond. As a conclusion, my skin looks DEAD without VASELINE! Its with me wherever I go. Not only that, vaseline product is very cheap and its affordable compared to other brand. So guys, have a try if u guys have dry skins. :)

Decondine

   It is a Cough and Cold preparation which is manufactured by Sunward. It is indicated for nasal & respiratory congestion, common cold, acute sinusitis and allergic rhinitis. A tablet of decondine contains Triprolidine HCl-2.5mg and Pseudoephedrine HCl-60mg.

Is an over-the-counter antihistamine with anticholinergic properties. It is used to combat the symptoms associated with allergies and is sometimes combined with other cold medications designed to provide general relief for flu-like symptoms. Like many over-the-counter antihistamines, the most common side effect is drowsiness. Triprolidine is a quick acting drug that can clear congestion and stop runny noses in 15-30 minutes.

 Pseudoephedrine

Is a sympathomimetic drug of the phenethylamine and amphetamine chemical classes. It is used as a nasal/sinus decongestant and stimulant, or as a wakefulness-promoting agent. The salts pseudoephedrine hydrochloride and pseudoephedrine sulfate are found in many over-the-counter preparations either as a single ingredient or, more commonly, in combination with antihistamines, guaifenesin, dextromethorphan, paracetamol, and/or NSAIDs.

(S,S)-2-methylamino-1-phenylpropan-1-ol / Pseudoephedrine

Side effects of decondine are dryness of mouth, nose & throat; sedation, sleepiness, dizziness, disturbed coordination. The dosage of this tablet for adults and children is 1tab/tds. However,its a different story for me. I have to take 2tabs each time to get the effect of the medicine as i got tolerance with this medicine. I consume it frequently as I'm having sinusitis and this is the cause i got tolerance. My day will be like HELL if i dont have decondine whenever i get flu. 

     These are the DRUGS that i need in order for me to  Stay and Look Healthy.

-CHEMISTRY for Me-

When i was in lower secondary, i was wondering what chemistry is actually. My seniors told me that chemistry is a subject where u going to learn about chemicals,mixing colorful solutions and getting smokes(its actually gas) from it.When i went to Form 4, i got to enter a science stream class and that is the moment where i was excited that I'm going to learn chemistry. However, it wasn't as interesting as i thought it were. First of all, i got an old chinese man as my teacher for chemistry who is waiting to get retired. I had difficulties in understanding his teaching and i always get an C or D grade for my tests. At that moment, i hated chemistry to the max. Then, my teacher retired after 4 months and i got a new young malay lady as my chemistry teacher. I was unlucky cause she is a trainee and is afraid of students. My friends and me go to lab not to do experiments but play with the chemicals and flames. The unforgettable moment was when the teacher cried in front us,begging us to stop playing a fool and start studying. however, we were the same till the end of Form 4 and my results never had any progression. In Form 5, i had an awesome old chinese lady called Mrs.Poh as my teacher who made me to like chemistry. She is the one who thought me what CHEMISTRY is actually.

Chemistry is actually a reaction between two things when it comes in close contact with each other. Chemistry involves structures, composition, bonding, properties,calculation(molarity,volume,etc) and many more. No one can be escaped from the word chemistry. When a water boils,the moment we start eating(digestion),in order for body systems to work,it needs impulse from chemical messenger,when we breathe,cleaning clothes, cooking(baking), vehicles and many more which involves or specifically requires chemistry. Moreover, medicines that we take to cure our sickness also involve chemistry. Chemistry is the fundamental base for synthesis of drugs(medicine).Not only that, i also learned that feelings between two person also requires chemistry. Thus, chemistry is everywhere and its unavoidable.

 

However, chemistry also can be dangerous if it is not handled in the correct manner. Some chemicals are very reactive and if it is mixed together,it can cause burn to our skin or burn the entire lab. Thus,precaution must be taken when handling chemicals.

All this was thought to  me by Mrs.Poh and since that i started to score my tests and exams with an A. She is the reason why I'm doing Pharmacy now. Chemistry is the main subject in the pharmacy course and it is interesting as we will learn to handle with lots of chemicals and their properties by doing experiments(preparation,identification tests, and assay). Oh yeah when i say experiment,it sounds cool and interesting. However after all the experiments,here comes the annoying part of it where we have to write lab reports regarding our experiment. The annoying part is the DISCUSSION, where we'll be spending more time in completing the report and also this is part where it carries the most mark. Like it or not,u still have to do it. I also realized that chemistry requires memorization and u need 1TB hard disk in your brain.

Whatever it is,its still fun to learn Chemistry!

Chemicals turn into Medicines and this is my Profession (to handle with it)
